Vermont State Police say they stopped a wrong-way driver on Interstate 89 north of Waterbury on Sunday night.

The incident happened shortly before 11 p.m., according to a report from state Trooper Skylar Velasquez.

At 10:48 p.m., state police received multiple reports of a wrong-way driver traveling southbound on the northbound side of the highway near mile marker 66.8, which is about three miles north of Exit 10 in Waterbury.

Troopers were able to stop the vehicle without incident, police said. The driver, 35-year-old Kiana Donegan of Shelburne, showed signs of impairment and was arrested for both suspicion of driving under the influence and gross negligent operation, police said.

At the Berlin barracks, police said that Donegan was issued a citation to appear in Washington County Superior Court on Dec. 18 to answer to the charges.
