Dungeons & Dragons storytelling returns to the the Valley Players stage in Waitsfield on Friday with “Chaos in the Valley: Undefeated Champ.”

The 7 p.m. show features four improv comedians/table-top role players and a Dungeon Master.

“Chaos in the Valley” brings Dungeons & Dragons’ collective storytelling experience to life. The players create characters they control and the Dungeon Master creates the world in which the characters interact with each other, other people, monsters, landscapes, and of course, dungeons.

Players are free to interact with the world as they wish. However, no matter what they want to do, or how good they are at something, there is always a chance of failure as dictated by the 20-sided die, or D20.

Playing Dungeons & Dragons in front of a live audience adds an extra element of  spontaneity. Audience members can make additional donations (to the Valley Players) to participate in the show by altering game events at particular times of the show, such as making a player re-roll, adding or subtracting monsters in a fight, or adding bonuses to a player’s roll. Donations for these transactions may be cash or  Venmo to the Valley Players.

The players for this event are: Jordan Streeter of Moretown as the Dungeon Master, Allen Morgan from Burlington as Old Roald the Bold, Jon van Luling of Burlington as Gnarly Undercarriage, Eric Badger from Waterbury as Breadly Baker, and Izzy Grae of St. Albans as Bungi.

The atmosphere for the production is casual: No reservations required as seating is first-come-first-served starting at 6:30 p.m. Admission is a small donation to the Valley Players Theater. Audience members may bring snacks and beverages. Rated PG-13 for some language and figurative violence, it runs about two hours.
