Obituary: John (Jack) Centonze

April 4, 1942 - February 7, 2021

On Sunday morning, February 7, 2021, John (Jack) Centonze, D.D.S., passed away in the comfort of his home, in the arms of his dear wife Donna. Jack endured many months of declining health previous to his passing.

Jack was born on April 4, 1942 to Victor and Giovanna Centonze in Stamford, Conn. He attended St. Basil's Preparatory School, graduating in 1960. Jack graduated from the University of Vermont in 1964 and then Fairleigh Dickinson Dental School in 1968. He was a captain in the United States Air Force stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base, San Angelo, Texas, from 1968 to 1970.

Jack was a highly respected member of the Waterbury, Vt. community for over 50 years. He was a dedicated dentist in the village of Waterbury for over 35 years.

Among his many interests were airplanes, English sports cars, antique car restorations, and his beloved camp on Woodard Hill. Jack with his co-pilot Donna flew all over the country in their Piper Cherokee, with the Italian flag painted proudly on its tail.

In his spare time, Jack could always be found out in his garage carefully working on one of his many auto projects. The one spot Jack really enjoyed was at the camp he built himself on Woodard Hill. It was his own special piece of Vermont. Access was tricky, but once there, he was really at peace.

Jack is survived by his loving bride of 59 years, Donna; his son, John Jr. and his wife Erin; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was sadly predeceased by his dear son Victor in 1999.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Jack's memory to the Waterbury Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 95. Waterbury Center, VT 05677 or the Central Vermont Humane Society, P.O. Box 687, Montpelier, VT 05601.
