Montpelier’s Brown Bag Summer Concert Series resumes

If your daytime travels find you in Montpelier on Thursdays, Hunger Mountain Co-op’s free Brown Bag Summer Concert Series might be worth checking out. 

Montpelier Alive announced that Thursday concerts at noon return Aug. 5 and will continue weekly through Sept. 9. All performances will be held in the courtyard of Christ Episcopal Church at 64 State Street. 

The lineup includes community favorites and eclectic new sounds. The schedule of performances is: 

 

Aug. 5: Saboyouma - Led by master ballafonist Ousmane Camara, Saboyouma brings to life the sounds of West Africa that contain roots of jazz, funk, and blues.

Aug. 12: McCaffrey, Coane & Rowell - Colin McCaffrey, Danny Coane and Dave Rowell perform classic country, rockabilly and bluegrass. 

Aug. 19: A2VT - From Burlington today but representing Somalia, Tanzania and Burundi, A2VT synthesizes native African music and dance roots with Western pop and hip hop. Combining cultures, they perform in up to eight unique languages.

Aug. 26 : The Larkspurs - D Davis and Django Soulo on guitar and vocals, Liz Beatty on vocals, Seamus Hannan on percussion serve up American Roots music. 

Sept. 2: The Revenants - Bluegrass Gospel Project alums Taylor Armerding, Andy Greene, and Kirk Lord present original, time-honored, and contemporary Americana tunes. 

Sept. 9: KeruBo - A solo artist born in Kendu Bay, Kenya, KeruBo’s musical influences range from traditional African music to gospel, blues, Afro-jazz, and jazz. She’s toured the world as a backing vocalist and dancer for African-fusion artists and fronted her own band, Keru-Blues, in Kenya. Now living in Vermont, she performs and works as a K-12 educator and social worker.
