The annual Giving Tree for Children's Literacy Foundation at Bridgeside Books is up and accepting book donations through Dec. 24.

As part of its year-round literacy mission, the Waterbury-based nonprofit foundation distributes books to low-income, at-risk children up to age 12 in rural Vermont and New Hampshire communities. Books collected during this holiday drive at the Stowe Street bookstore are then handed out to youngsters at CLiF events during the year.

The book shop offers customers a 20% discount on any books purchased to put under the tree in the store to be donated to CLiF. Also, new books purchased elsewhere may also be dropped off at Bridgeside.

Owner Katya d’Angelo said last year’s collection totaled 519 books. Her hope is that this year’s matches or beats that.
