Nominations open through Nov. 15 for Waterbury Acts of Kindness

For the third consecutive year, Revitalizing Waterbury has organized its Waterbury Acts of Kindness honors to be announced just ahead of Thanksgiving.

The effort asks community members to nominate people deserving of recognition for acts large and small that were noticed and appreciated.

“Individuals may acknowledge folks in our community for their outstanding service, efforts or contributions to help make Waterbury such a special place,” explained Revitalizing Waterbury Executive Director Karen Nevin.

Supported by a donation from Ivy Computer, during the week of Thanksgiving everyone nominated will receive a gift of $25 in Waterbury Bucks that can be used at over 50 local businesses.

Last year, 58 people were nominated for their acts of kindness, Nevin said. Children, parents, teachers, neighbors, strangers were all recognized for making a difference in the community whether seen or unseen, small or large, kids or adults.

“We see and experience it all the time. Someone who stops to help, makes a bit of an effort, connects with us,” she said. “As one person put it in their nomination last year – they take the time to remember what’s truly important, kindness.”

Ideas for recognition include receiving great service at a restaurant, someone who went above and beyond as a volunteer or who did an otherwise thankless task, someone who brightened your day or did something to help make our town a better place.

Nominees can be anyone who lives, works or positively impacts the Waterbury community. Anyone of any age is eligible to be recognized and anyone may nominate someone.

George Pierce, president of Ivy Computer, Inc., said being part of a great community goes along with being one of the best places to work in Vermont. “Celebrating local acts of kindness recognized by the community itself, with a reward that then supports the businesses of this community, is something we just have to support,” he said of the kindness honors. “Happy to call Waterbury home.”

Nominations are open through Nov. 15. The nomination form is online at revitalizingwaterbury.org. The form asks who you are nominating and why.
