Green Mountain Conservation Camp signup is open
February 20, 2026 | By Waterbury RoundaboutVermont youngsters ages 12-16 who want to learn about Vermont's wildlife and gain outdoor skills have a chance to sign up for a session of the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department's Green Mountain Conservation Camps this summer.
Registration is now open for the one-week programs held at Lake Bomoseen in Castleton and Buck Lake in Woodbury. Campers learn firsthand about fish and wildlife conservation, ecology, forestry, orienteering, safe firearm and archery techniques, swimming, canoeing, fishing and more. The program invites natural resource professionals as instructors to lead sessions and field activities.
“Whether kids come alone or with friends, they are guaranteed to meet new people and form new bonds while experiencing Vermont’s natural resources to the fullest,” said Fish and Wildlife Education Specialist Hannah Lafont. “An important takeaway message and common theme during the week is that conserving and managing habitat will help ensure Vermont will have fish and wildlife in the future.”
In addition to new campers ages 12-14, the camps encourage teens who have been through the program to return for more advanced learning and activities such as backpacking, camping, and unique hunting and fishing techniques.
“We would love to have all of the advanced sessions filled for campers who have already attended a basic session,” Lafont added. “Advanced sessions are for campers who have completed a basic session in a previous summer and who are 16 years old or younger.”
Conservation Camps begin June 21 and continue until Aug. 21. Tuition is $300 for a week, which covers food, lodging, and equipment; financial assistance is available.
