It is with profound sadness to announce the passing of Francis “Jay” Gallagher III, who died peacefully on June 8, 2023, at Woodridge Rehabilitation and Nursing Home. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

Jay was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on January 28, 1933, and spent his childhood in Sandwich, Massachusetts. As a young adult, Jay served our nation by enlisting in the United States Air Force during the Korean War Conflict from 1952-1953.

Jay was a great friend to many, each of whom will remember his bright sense of humor. He was also kind, always thought of others, and possessed a warm and caring heart.

As we mourn his passing, there is great comfort in knowing he is reunited with loved ones who predeceased him including his mother Christine Isabel Gallagher, his father Francis Joseph Gallagher II, and his former wife, Thelma Quemada Gallagher.

He is survived by his sons, John Gallagher of Erie, Pennsylvania; Shawn Gallagher of Bronx, New York; Brian Gallagher of Fairfield, New Jersey, and Ellis Gallagher of Brooklyn, New York. He is also survived by his two sisters, Anne Hill of Columbus, Ohio, and Mary Beery of Chillicothe, Ohio.

If you wish to make a memorial contribution in memory of Jay, kindly make your donation to the Waterbury Area Senior Center, online at wasca.org.
