This Halloween, Onion River Outdoors is hosting its annual Halloween Autumn Onion 5K race with a new Monster Mile 1-mile fun run this year.

The event will support the U14 Capital Soccer Club boys and girls teams that are fundraising for their trip to Barcelona, Spain, next spring.

The Autumn Onion is a Halloween-themed community costume race in Montpelier. In addition to the 5k and 1-mile courses through Montpelier, there will be food, activities, and a costume contest. All runners are encouraged to dress in costume for their races. The Monster Mile is geared toward the youngest participants.

The fun begins at 9 a.m. on Oct. 31 and organizers promise prizes for race winners and costume categories including funniest costume, most creative, best kids costumer, most “Vermont-y,” and most committed to running in an uncomfortable costume.

Registration is open now through Oct. 29 online here. Fees are $20 for ages 16 and older, $15 for youth ages 12-15, $10 for ages 6-11, $10 for the Monster Mile all ages. Kids age 5 and under run for free.
