The New Stage Players are making their play readings series a monthly event, with the latest featuring an “absurdist comedy” this Sunday at the Grange Hall Cultural Center.

The community theater company invites the public to join in to participate or just attend the reading of “Raised in Captivity,” a play by Nicky Silver, starting at 4 p.m. Sunday.

The story portrays themes of guilt, redemption, and the complexities of familial relationships through the reunion of estranged siblings at their mother’s’ funeral.

“This story is both hilarious and poignant, exploring contradictions of life and the human experience through dark and zany humor,” the event announcement teases.

Attendees are invited to take part in reading the script or just hearing the play, and sticking around for a discussion afterwards. No knowledge of the play or acting experience is necessary to participate as the readings are for enjoyment and exploring dramatic literature.

Casting for the reading roles will begin at 3:30 p.m. so that the reading can start at 4 p.m. Those interested in taking a part should arrive early.

There are no tickets for this event, but for planning purposes, organizers appreciate if attendees sign up with an email or call to info.acrossroads@gmail.com or 802-244-4168.

This event is free and open to the public, with donations appreciated, if possible.
