Constance Jean Zack, 1934 – 2026

Constance Jean Zack, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on July 27, 2026, at the age of 92 in Rockledge, Florida.

Born January 22, 1934, in Coffeyville, Kansas, Connie was the only child of Thomas and Beulah Conley. She lived in rural, post-depression Kansas until the age of 14, when the family moved, along with the oil industry, to Lake Charles, Louisiana. She met her husband of 62 years, Dominick Zack Jr., at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she and Dominick were attending school. They were married in 1955. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, faith, food and friends.

Connie was a devoted mother. She raised her two children with love and lessons of kindness, responsibility and hard work. She was constantly baking their favorite treats, which were always delicious and always appreciated.

Connie taught home economics. Most of her career was spent teaching at Harwood Union High School in Duxbury, Vermont. The family moved to Moretown, Vermont, in 1966 after living in Norwalk, Connecticut, for some years after their graduation. They had rented a home in an Italian neighborhood in Norwalk on Renzulli Road, where many happy memories were made. They later lived in Moretown until 2008 before moving to Florida.

Connie was passionate about teaching future generations the practical skills needed to thrive in day-to-day life. Those who knew her remember her love of birds and plants, and her handwritten letters and cards that always arrived on time, and often on self-made stationery with birding pictures she had taken. She especially loved to watch, photograph and talk about birds (guess that made her a “birder”), and would travel through the U.S. and even to Costa Rica to find a new bird to photograph.

Above all, Connie was fiercely devoted to her two grandchildren. She and Dominick would spend countless days enjoying their company, teaching them a new life skill, and being the best grandparents two kids could ever have. In return, both Colin and Anthony loved them back just as fiercely.

She is survived by her children: Greg and Jeff (Vicki); grandchildren Anthony (Vanessa); and her two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and their children, who all affectionately called her Aunt Connie, her brother-in-law Bill (Liv) and sister-in-law Angela (Allen). She was preceded in death by her husband, Dominick, and grandson Colin.

A service for Connie will be held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 11, at Holy Name of Jesus, 3050 North Highway A1A, Indialantic, Florida, with a reception following. Connie will be interred with Dominick at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, Florida, at a future date.
