James Curtis Lovely, 1933 - 2026

James Curtis Lovely, 93, passed away on October 29, 2026. Born and raised in Waterbury, Vermont, James lived a life defined by hard work, dedication to family, and enjoyment of life's simple pleasures.

James was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife Edna, daughter Debra Towne, and son Michael Lovely.

A hardworking man throughout his life, James worked his way up from custodian at the Waterbury Post Office to eventually becoming Postmaster. He took great pride in his work and did whatever it took to provide for his family, sometimes holding three jobs at once. His strong work ethic and dedication were a testament to the love he had for those closest to him.

James had many interests and hobbies that reflected his unique personality. He enjoyed going to flea markets and lawn sales and collecting vintage toys and antiques. He appreciated the history and stories behind the items he collected. He attended Vermont College for one year, which he jokingly described as spending his time “playing cards.” He also had a natural musical talent and enjoyed playing the harmonica.

Above all, James leaves behind a family who will remember him for his hard work, stories, humor and the life he built for those he loved.

He is survived by his children, Pam Tryggeseth, Richard Lovely and Robert Lovely; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

At James’s request, no funeral or memorial service is planned. He will be remembered and missed by all who knew and loved him.
