Oct. 3: Learn about ‘Owls and their Calls’ at Mad River Glen

Families are invited to Mad River Glen on Saturday, Oct. 3, for a special presentation, “Owls and Their Calls,” by the Vermont Institute of Natural Sciences, offering an up-close look at native nocturnal raptors.

The free event begins at 11 a.m. on the third floor of the Basebox at Mad River Glen.

Contrary to popular belief, not all owls hoot—some screech, whistle, or bark. Attendees will meet live owls, hear their unique calls, and have the chance to handle biological artifacts to discover how these apex predators hunt and thrive in Vermont's forests.

The presentation is part of the Stark Mountain Foundation’s Green & Gold Weekend, which includes multiple events, including the Mad River Glen annual shareholders meeting, scenic lift rides on the single chair, and a naturalist-guided hike down Stark Mountain starting at 1 p.m. 

Pre-registration is required for the owl presentation. There is no charge, but donations to Stark Mountain Foundation are appreciated to support various projects, including future environmental educational programs. Register and learn more about upcoming events online at starkmountain.org.

The nonprofit Stark Mountain Foundation’s mission is to preserve and protect the environment and ecosystem of Stark Mountain in Fayston, where Mad River Glen ski area is located, including its recreational access and historic value. 

Based in Quechee, the nonprofit Vermont Institute of Natural Sciences works to promote environmental conservation through education, research, and avian wildlife rehabilitation.
