The Harwood Union High School Theatre Department is counting down the days to the curtain going up on its spring musical production of “Hadestown: Teen Edition.”
The show is a high-energy adaptation of Anaïs Mitchell’s Tony and Grammy-winning Broadway musical. Four performances are planned, Thursday-Saturday, April 2-4.
“Hadestown” is a powerful, contemporary reimagining of two classic Greek myths: the tragic love story of Orpheus and Eurydice and the tale of King Hades and his wife Persephone. Featuring Mitchell’s genre-defying music and poetic storytelling, the show offers a moving and memorable theatrical experience for audiences of all ages.
Harwood’s production has cast senior Aiden Heath as Orpheus, juniors Eireann McDonough as Eurydice, Tarin Askew as Hades, Julia Wulff as Persephone, and Mar Greene as Hermes. Also featured are seniors Maddie Stephan, Nina Henzel and Indigo Lees, juniors Jane Schaefer and Cora Potts, and sophomore Robin Weigand as the Fates.

Senior A.J. Brooks leads an ensemble of almost 30 students through the up-above and down-below worlds where the story unfolds. Junior Nyx Gilson is the scenic designer; sophomore Zoe Legeros is the costumer; junior Cali Neville and sophomore Franki Beto are stage managers for the production.
The show is once again directed by Scott Weigand, with music direction by Harwood music teacher Molly Desrochers. Choreography is by Mary Chudzik and Kenrick Fisher is the lighting designer.
Weigand points out that, although the storylines are rooted in the classics, their modern presentation in “Hadestown” proves the themes are timeless. “This show is not just a modern retelling of classic myths; its themes still resonate today. It’s not just a love story, but a story about the struggle between the haves and have-nots,” Weigand said. “It is a challenging show that these students have worked hard to present.I think everyone will be moved by their performance.”
