Harwood Theatre alums needed for cabaret fundraiser, March 14
January 26, 2025 | By Waterbury Roundabout
An upcoming cabaret fundraiser for the Harwood Auditorium Revitalization Project is seeking alumni from the school’s theatre program to fill out the bill.
The March 14 event on the Harwood stage will benefit the project to refurbish the auditorium’s infrastructure while bringing together generations of performers from Harwood's past.
Organizer Stefanie Maas Weigand, a former Harwood music teacher and 2000 Harwood graduate, is recruiting alumni to put together the program. Solo acts, duos, trios, etc., are encouraged. Rehearsals will take place on the day of the concert to accommodate out-of-town performers who can visit for the event.
Anyone wishing to be involved but not interested in an individual performance is invited to join for a closing group number. “The more the merrier as we celebrate our incredible community and share memories from our time together on stage,” Weigand said in announcing the event.
Those interested should use this online form to sign up.
The HARP project, as it’s been named, is a campaign to raise $1.3 million to make needed upgrades and renovations to Harwood Union High School’s auditorium, which was last updated in 1997.
Organizers hope to divide the various project elements into several phases to replace all of the theater rigging equipment and curtains, bring the space’s electrical system up to modern code, add wireless microphones for performers to use on stage and other upgrades. The cabaret event is being scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 14. Weigand said updates will be posted on Instagram @harp_vt and @harwood_theatre.
