It’s April, and that means Harwood Union High School Theatre is serving up a slice of Broadway for local audiences.
This spring’s musical production, “Hadestown: Teen Edition,” opened Thursday night with a cast of several dozen students who bring to life this adaptation of Anaïs Mitchell’s Tony and Grammy-winning musical.

Three more performances are scheduled: tonight and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and a 1:30 p.m. Saturday matinee.
“Hadestown” puts a modern spin to the telling of two classic Greek myth storylines: the tragic love story of Orpheus and Eurydice and the tale of King Hades and his wife Persephone.
The Harwood cast has senior Aiden Heath as Orpheus, juniors Eireann McDonough as Eurydice, Tarin Askew as Hades, Julia Wulff as Persephone, and Mar Greene as Hermes. More than two dozen others round out the ensemble.
Tickets: $12 adults, and $8 students; available at the door, cash or check only. Suitable for all ages.
HARP auditorium fundraising
Each year, Harwood’s theatre program presents a spring musical and a fall play. The Harwood stage is also the venue for numerous music performances, concerts and school and community events throughout the year. Plans are underway for a major renovation to the auditorium’s infrastructure to upgrade equipment and meet modern code regulations. A fundraising campaign aims to raise $1.3 million from community donations separate from the school district’s budget for the project.
Named HARP (Harwood Auditorium Revitalization Project), the project’s next fundrasing event will be next Thursday, April 9, at American Flatbread in Waitsfield. The restaurant will donate $5 of every flatbread sold — dine-in or carry-out— to HARP.
Learn more about HARP online at harpvt.org. Contributions are tax-deductible.
