HUUSD Board: Seeking applicants for a Warren seat
January 20, 2025Dear Warren Community,
The Harwood Unified Union School District (HUUSD) Board is seeking to fill one vacant seat representing the Town of Warren as a result of the resignation of Jonathan Young. The Board is seeking a Warren resident to serve by appointment until Town Meeting Day 2026. If the appointee wishes to continue serving beyond that date, they would need to run for election on Town Meeting Day 2026 for the remaining one year of the original three-year term. To be eligible, applicants must reside in Warren.
The HUUSD Board typically meets two times per month on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Harwood Union High School library. Board members are volunteers who review materials in advance of meetings and participate in thoughtful discussion and decision making about district operations and policy. While prior board experience is not required, an open mind, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to serving students and the community are essential.
Serving on the HUUSD Board is an important way to contribute to local governance and to make a meaningful difference for students, families, and residents across the six town school district. Board service offers valuable insight into education policy, community engagement, and the democratic process.
Interested Warren residents should submit a letter of interest and résumé describing their background, experience, and reasons for wanting to serve to HUUSD Board Chair Ashley Woods at awoods@huusd.org and Superintendent Dr. Mike Leichliter at mleichliter@huusd.org by Friday, February 6, 2026, at 4:00 p.m.
Candidates will have the opportunity to speak briefly at the HUUSD Board meeting on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, when the appointment will be made. As required by law, the HUUSD Board will consult with the Warren selectboard prior to making the appointment.
More information about the district and the HUUSD Board is available at huusd.org, including answers to frequently asked questions at huusd.org/joining-our-school-board.
Thank you,
The HUUSD School Board
