After two years of postponed or virtual events, Vermont nonprofit Music-COMP presents an in-person and online world premiere of 25 works by student composers Tuesday, April 26, in Burlington.

The music education organization’s Opus 36 concert will bring student composers and professional musicians together at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul to rehearse and perform pieces created by students in grades 3-12 from around the state.

Among them will be Crossett Brook Middle School sixth-grader Robin Weigand's original composition titled "Mindstorm." Also on the program is a piece for piano and cello titled "Raindrops of the Desert" composed by Harwood Union High School junior Molly Caffry.

The free performance starts at 6:30 p.m. and will be online at music-comp.org/opus-36

Music-COMP is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing young composers experience in music composition through online mentoring, live performances, and free resources, while also offering professional development for music teachers. Since its Opus 1 concert in April 2000, Music-COMP has premiered 873 new works by Vermont student composers.

Two local musicians lead Music COMP: Executive Director Matt LaRocca, of Duxbury, and Director of Education Stefanie Weigand, of Waterbury Center.
