Eleven students participated in the Vermont Math Fair at UVM on April 11. Lillian Keller, Logan Geba, Leona Robinson, Hazel Deane, Amelia Porter, Rae Poulen, Theo Bennette, Jasper LaRocca, Jack Coccagna, Siobhan Murman, and Kate Smith represented Crossett Brook.

The students chose a variety of math topics and shared presentations of their findings to a panel of state judges. Scoring was based on mathematical mastery, presentation skills, and the visual quality of their displays.

The competition awards medals to the top three projects in each grade-level category.   Logan Geba earned a silver medal in the 5th-6th grade category with his project titled, “Binary: Base 2.”  Theo Bennette earned a bronze medal in the 7th-12th grade category with a project titled, “How to Win Games with Math.”

Since February, Crossett Brook’s 7th and 8th graders have been working on a History Day project. Each year, students choose and research topics around a theme for the statewide event, and this year’s theme was “Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History.”

The students first shared their projects at a schoolwide exhibit. They then had the opportunity to present their projects at the Vermont History Day event on April 11 at Saint Michael’s College.

Crossett Brook students who presented at St. Mike’s were (with their presentation titles) Kate Smith (Alice Ball's Discovery of a Leprosy Treatment), Brantlee Link and Leo Vecchione (Stephen King of Horror), Kamryn Lord and Abby Saltzgueber (Roe vs Wade),

Leo Desanto and Grayson Gendimenico (The History of Vieques), Emerson Burt and Emmy Dubois (The Republic of Vermont), Finley McCain (The White Night Riot).

Not pictured: Harper Fernandez (The Capitol Crawl 1990) and Jacob Rye (Victory Stand).
