State DMV officials ask the public to plan ahead if they have important business to take care of regarding their drivers licenses, vehicle regisgtrations, accident reports, etc.

All DMV offices and the telephone call center will be closed to the public on Nov. 7 and 10, according to the announcement.

The department is in the final phase of implementing a modernization project – a major computer system upgrade to improve customer service with faster, easier transactions. It also will put more DMV services online.

“The computer systems being replaced are more than 50 years old and have impeded the department’s ability to streamline processes and keep up with increasing demand,” the announcement explains. “The new system simplifies transactions and allows the DMV to serve customers better.”

Ahead of the Nov. 7 and 10 closures, limited appointments for service will be available on Nov. 5-6. On Nov. 6, the only services available will be those involving vehicles, such as registration and title transactions.

DMV offices and the call center will resume regular operation on Nov. 12. (All state offices will be closed on Nov. 11 for the Veterans Day holiday.)

Starting on the evening of Nov. 5, all online services will be unavailable until they are restored on Nov. 12. In addition, online driver license renewals will be unavailable beginning Oct. 27.

New online services being added in this final phase of work will include public record requests, driver standing verification, and crash report submission.

Customers who need to renew or replace their identification, driver’s license, or learner’s permit on or around Nov. 6-12 should plan ahead.
