State Rep. Candice White of Waitsfield has announced her re-election campaign for a second term in the Vermont House of Representatives.

White, who filed at the end of May to be on the August primary ballot, is a Democrat in her first term representing the Washington-2 district communities of Duxbury, Moretown, Fayston, Waitsfield and Warren.

Her district-mate, Rep. Dara Torre, D-Moretown, is also seeking re-election to a third term. They have no challenger for the Aug. 11 primary, and no Republican or Progressive candidates have filed for those primary elections on the August ballot, either. Independent and other candidates could be added in August to be on the November general election ballot.

White has served for the past two years on the House Transportation Committee, where she has advocated for increased funding for local roads and bridges. She has also worked to support expanding pollinator-friendly plantings and wildlife crossings along highway corridors.

Outside of her committee work, White has focused on policy discussions regarding education transformation, healthcare reform, affordable housing, and land-use regulation reform. In addition to serving as Assistant Majority Leader for Internal Communications for the House Democratic Caucus, White is a member of the Rural Caucus, the Climate Caucus, the Vermont Economy Caucus, and the Women’s Caucus.

“I am proud to represent this community in the Vermont State House,” she said. “I have worked with some truly excellent people and have learned a lot about the machinations of state government. There are challenges ahead, but I feel strongly that we are moving in the right direction for Vermonters.”

A Waitsfield resident since 2003, White before her 2024 election to the House worked for more than two decades in marketing and communications for national magazines, for Sugarbush Resort, and as a freelance consultant.

She has volunteered on nonprofit boards and has served as a former chair of the Central Vermont Economic Development Corporation board and former co-chair of the Vermont Women’s Fund Council. She recently joined the board of the nonprofit Lake George Association.
