Road Work | Week of Sept. 14-18

Weekly Road Work reports are assembled with information from the Vermont Agency of Transportation on projects in the region, the Waterbury Public Works Department, and other local highway departments for projects in Waterbury and neighboring communities as necessary.

Motorists are reminded to drive with caution through work zones and to follow posted speed limits. Speeding fines are doubled in work areas along the interstate.

Waterbury

New sidewalks are being installed on Elm Street this week. Property owners have been alerted to the activity which will impact driveway access and street parking. Motorists are asked to slow down in the project area and give crews space to work.

Interstate 89 | Richmond-Waterbury, southbound

Paving continues along I-89 southbound between Exit 11 in Richmond and Exit 10 in Waterbury. VTrans photo

The southbound exit and entrance ramps in Waterbury have been milled. Paving in the project area between Exit 11 in Richmond and Exit 10 in Waterbury continues along with guardrail work and shoulder work that includes berm removal.

This week, motorists can also expect one lane of travel between Exits 11 and 10 during all working hours listed below. Motorists are urged to use both lanes to the merge point and should anticipate slow-moving travel and traveling on uneven lanes. 

The work schedule this week is: 

• NIGHTTIME Sunday-Thursday, Sept. 13-17: 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for guardrail work near Exit 10.

• DAYTIME from Monday, Sept. 14, through Friday, Sept. 18: 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for final paving of the top pavement layer and work on the bridge joints throughout the project

Reminders: Do not follow construction vehicles into the work zone. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph and fines will be doubled.

The resurfacing project on Interstate 89 southbound between Waterbury and Montpelier is close to completion.

Final project cleanup continues between Exit 10 and Exit 8.

Motorists should expect minor delays during working hours due to intermittent southbound lane closures. 

Daytime work hours this week, Monday-Friday, Sept. 14-18, are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Reminder: the speed limit is reduced to 55 mph and fines are doubled.
