Road Work | Week of Aug. 10-14
August 7, 2026 | By Waterbury RoundaboutWeekly Road Work reports are assembled with information from the Vermont Agency of Transportation on projects in the region, the Waterbury Public Works Department, and other local highway departments for projects in Waterbury and neighboring communities as necessary.
Motorists are reminded to drive with caution through work zones and to follow posted speed limits. Speeding fines are doubled in work areas along the interstate.
Waterbury
Waterbury Highway Department Supervisor Celia Clark says there are no major projects in the works this week. Crews will be working all around town, however, on typical summer tasks such as mowing, grading and ditching. Be on the lookout for workers; slow down and give them space.
Interstate 89 | Waterbury-Montpelier, southbound

In the past week, crews working on the final pieces to this resurfacig project between Exit 10 in Waterbury and Exit 8 in Montpelier southbound on Interstate 89 have completed the installation of shoulder rumble strips and paving U-Turn tie-ins. They continued installing signs and shoulder material.
In the week ahead, motorists should expect minor delays during working hours due to southbound lane closures between Exits 10 and 8.
The work schedule for this week will be Monday-Friday, 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tasks this week include installing asphalt plug joints along the bridge approaches, continued work installing signs and shoulder material. Weather permitting, workers also will continue work installing the permanent pavement markings near the interchange ramps.
Reminder: The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph, and fines will be doubled.

Interstate 89 Southbound | Richmond-Waterbury, southbound
In this ongoing resurfacing project along Interstate 89 southbound between Exit 11 in Richmond and Exit 10 in Waterbury, guardrail and shoulder work continued last week, and crews worked to adjust the heights of various structures through the project area.
In the week ahead, Aug. 10-14, motorists can expect one-lane travel between Exits 11 in Richmond and 10 in Waterbury, with occasional northbound closures at the U-Turns during working hours.
Drivers should use both lanes to the merge point and anticipate slow-moving travel and milled surfaces.
NOTE: Weather depending, there may be some daytime and/or nighttime milling. If so, the traffic pattern will be affected as it is during the daytime hours with lane closures.
The work schedule for this week is: Monday-Friday, 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Crews will continue working on guardrails and shoulders.
Drivers are reminded not to follow construction vehicles into the work zone. Also, the speed limit is reduced to 55 mph in work areas, and fines are doubled.
