Vermont State Police are seeking the public’s help in investigating a theft this week at a construction site in Waterbury.

Trooper Mae Murdock in a news release said state police received a report on Tuesday at the Berlin barracks about a theft at a home construction site on Gregg Hill Road in Waterbury that took place on either Monday or Tuesday, Dec. 8-9.

Investigation revealed that someone forced their way into the premises, and “a substantial number of tools were taken without permission,” the report states.

Police did not specify the exact location of the crime, nor did they detail the types or value of the tools that were taken. The report did describe the incident as a case of grand larceny, which is a felony offense involving items worth more than $900, according to state statute. Waterbury Roundabout has reached out to police for more details.

Anyone with information that might assist investigators is asked to contact Trooper Murdock at the Berlin barracks at 802-229-9191. Anonymous tips may be made online at vsp.vermont.gov/tipsubmit.

Southbound driver in northbound lanes stopped without incident

Vermont State Police say they stopped a wrong-way driver on Interstate 89 north of Waterbury on Sunday night.

The incident happened shortly before 11 p.m., according to a report from state Trooper Skylar Velasquez.

At 10:48 p.m., state police received multiple reports of a wrong-way driver traveling southbound on the northbound side of the highway near mile marker 66.8, which is about three miles north of Exit 10 in Waterbury. Troopers were able to stop the vehicle without incident, police said.

The driver, 35-year-old Kiana Donegan of Shelburne, showed signs of impairment and was arrested for both suspicion of driving under the influence and gross negligent operation, police said.

At the Berlin barracks, police said that Donegan was issued a citation to appear in Washington County Superior Court on Dec. 18 to answer to the charges.
