State Police Det. Sgt. Dan Trottier issued a news release shortly before 6 p.m. Monday to report a new death investigation. “At approximately 1:16 p.m., the Vermont State Police was notified that a homeowner discovered a vehicle on their property with a deceased person inside,” Trottier’s report states.

Investigators identified the deceased person as Sheila Uris, age 82, of Waitsfield, who was reported missing around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday after last being seen leaving her home on Farr Lane around noon. A search for Uris and her dark blue 2014 Chevrolet Cruze sedan ensued, involving state police, state search and rescue personnel, the state’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems team, and the Waitsfield Fire Department.

Uris’ vehicle was discovered at a residential property on Pine Hill Lane, less than a mile from her home, according to Trottier’s report on Monday.

Police said that an autopsy will be conducted by the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington to determine the cause and manner of death. Police emphasized, however, that initial evidence and investigation did not lead them to consider this a suspicious death.

“The Vermont State Police wants to thank everyone in the Waitsfield community who provided information or assisted [with] searching,” Trottier added.

Anyone with information that might assist investigators should contact the Vermont State Police Berlin barracks at 802-229-9191.
