Troopers respond to crashes, stop 100+mph driver on I-89

The incident happened shortly before 7:30 a.m. on June 14, according to Vermont State Police.
Troopers arrived to find a Ford Explorer with major front-end damage lying on its passenger side off the roadway. The 18-year-old driver told police he had been traveling north when he fell asleep while driving.
The vehicle went off the road to the right and came to a stop in a patch of trees above a steep embankment, according to the police report.
The driver, who had been wearing a seatbelt, was checked out by EMS and was not taken to the hospital, police said. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the crash, police reported.
Motorcyclist injured in Rt. 2 crash
Vermont State Police say a Barre man was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash on U.S. Route 2 in Middlesex recently.
The incident happened on June 13 near the intersection with Lovers Lane, according to a press release.
Troopers arrived to find the crashed motorcycle and the injured operator. They learned from witnesses and the driver that the bike had been traveling west on Route 2 when it failed to make it around a curve, and the motorcycle went off the road.
The driver, 23-year-old Dominic Trevino, of Barre, was wearing a helmet at the time; he suffered serious injuries and was transported to Central Vermont Medical Center, according to police.
The weather was clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the crash. Trevino was riding a 2022 Yamaha motorcycle.
Waterbury man cited for going over 100 mph on I-89
A Waterbury man faces a charge of negligent operation after Vermont State Police say they stopped him going more than 100 mph on Interstate 89 recently.
The incident happened on June 1, shortly before 5:30 p.m. on I-89 northbound near mile marker 61, just south of the Waterbury exit, according to troopers.
A trooper was also driving north on the interstate at the time and observed a Porsche 911 traveling in the same direction at a high rate of speed, according to a press release. The vehicle’s speed was “observed to be in excess of 100 mph,” and the highway’s posted speed limit is 65 mph, the release notes.
The vehicle was stopped, and the driver identified as Bruno Gubetta, 70, of Waterbury, police said. Gubetta was issued a ticket carrying a fine of $530 and a penalty of two points on his driver’s license, police said. He was cited to appear in Washington Superior Court on July 16 to answer to a charge of negligent operation, according to police.
