Update Nov. 17: An item previously in this post regarding a July 8 one-vehicle crash in Moretown was removed. The DUI charge in that case has since been dismissed in Vermont Superior Court.

Vermont State Police say that one driver was taken to the hospital after a two-car crash early Thursday evening on Vermont Route 100 near the Cabot Annex retail center in Waterbury.

Police responded to a call at 6:19 p.m. reporting the crash. The investigation determined that Jeffrey Scott Mandelkow, 43, of Oak Harbor, Washington, was headed south on Rt. 100, driving a 2021 Audi Q7.

A 2024 Subaru Crosstrek driven by 24-year-old Rose T. Bernardine of Bolton pulled out of the shopping center to turn left, police said. “Bernardine pulled out in front of Mandelkow, attempting to travel north on Waterbury-Stowe Road, causing a crash with minor injuries to both parties,” Trooper Kevin Charney wrote in a news release.

Bernadine was taken by ambulance to UVM Medical Center; Mandelkow was not transported, police said.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. The weather was rainy at the time, and the roadway was wet, the report noted. Both vehicles also had disabling front-end damage and needed to be towed, police said.

Waterbury woman faces petit larceny charge

After investigating a theft at Kinney Drugs in Waterbury that happened in June, Vermont State Police on July 8 cited a Waterbury woman to appear in state criminal court to answer to a petit larceny charge.

Trooper Jacqueline June said the retail store contacted state police on June 17 to report a theft. The investigation identified 55-year-old Kellie Graff as the individual responsible, June said in a news release. “Graff was found to have stolen multiple items from the store,” June wrote.

On June 8, Graff was issued a citation to appear in Washington County Superior Court Criminal Division on July 31 to answer to the charge of petit larceny.
