Vermont State Police are investigating a one-vehicle crash on Vermont Route 100 in Waitsfield on Saturday morning that seriously injured a young driver from Warren.
Trooper Ryan Riegler said police received a report at 6 a.m. of a crash that occurred between Airport Road and Meadow Road in Waitsfield. They arrived to find a 2008 Ford Ranger pickup truck overturned off the roadway, and the driver located “away from the scene.”
The driver was identified as Dasan Dowsey, 20, of Warren. Dowsey sustained “severe, life-threatening” injuries and was transported to Central Vermont Medical Center and later transferred to UVM Medical Center in Burlington, police said.
A hospital spokesman on Monday morning said Dowsey was listed in “serious” condition.
Riegler’s report noted that Dowsey was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Mad River Ambulance and Waitsfield Fire Department responded, police said. Route 100 was closed for a short time as first responders worked at the scene.
Police said that Dowsey’s vehicle was totaled. The report also notes that the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry at the time of the crash.
The case is under investigation. Anyone with information that might assist investigators should contact Vermont State Police in Berlin at 802-229-9191.
