With the August 13 Vermont primary election on the horizon, the first two local events have been scheduled for voters to hear from and talk to the four candidates on the ballot for the Washington-Chittenden Vermont House district.

There were two crashes on Interstate 89 on Wednesday that included one fatality. They impacted highway and train traffic south of Waterbury.

With summer officially here and temperatures warming up Vermont’s ponds, lakes and streams, the Vermont Department of Health wants the public to be on the lookout for cyanobacteria as people look for safe swimming spots to cool off. 

Waterbury Ambulance Service’s decade-long dream of a new ambulance station took a giant step forward with a ceremonial groundbreaking kicking off project construction in downtown Waterbury. The crew hopes to raise the final $1.4 million before moving in next year. 

Two familiar faces and two newcomers have filed to get on the August state primary ballot as candidates for the Vermont House seats representing Waterbury. 

The town of Waterbury is among 51 recipients of $6.3 million in outdoor recreation grants announced by the state last week. Waterbury is receiving a $56,900 grant to be used for flood recovery and park accessibility improvements.

Although no specific plan has been announced to repurpose the former Vermont National Guard armory in Waterbury as a homeless shelter, local and state officials recently met for a hearing on if and when such a plan might require a town zoning permit.
