Less than a month into the new school year and principals at Harwood Union Middle and High School are contending with a social media prank gone too far. 

A South Carolina man died and a Vermont truck driver was injured in a six-vehicle crash that closed a section of Vermont Route 100 in Waterbury Center on Thursday afternoon. 

Just over two weeks into the new school year, the Harwood Union district has navigated bus glitches and a few COVID-19 cases while adjusting to full-time, in-person operations for the first time since March 2020.

State police are investigating a crash in Middlesex late Friday morning where a Subaru collided into the Filling Station restaurant on U.S. Route 2.

No one was injured Saturday night when a Subaru Outback careened down Route 100 toward the roundabout and apparently became airborne briefly, landing in in the middle of the traffic circle and eventually crashing to a stop in a nearby parking lot. 

For a few hours late Friday afternoon, Waterbury’s lower block of Stowe Street became the town’s living room as traffic was diverted for friends and neighbors to gather to mark an anniversary and celebrate the downtown’s decade of transformation. 

On Friday August 26, 2011, children at Hunger Mountain Children's Center on South Main Street in Waterbury helped their teachers rearrange and decorate their classrooms to prepare to switch from summer mode to preschool the following week.

There was plenty of sunshine on Wednesday when U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., paid a visit to Duxbury to address the world’s changing climate and tout renewable energy at schools.
