LETTER: Passing the torch at The Children’s Room

Sept. 11, 2021

Dear friends,

I'm writing to let you know that I'm moving down from the role of The Children's Room coordinator. It has truly been an honor to get to know so many fellow parents with young children in the area. And also the grandparents, kin, and caregivers and all of the educators and people around who currently care for our young children. Thank you for sharing some really great laughs and moments as we watched the kids play together. And to the children: it was fun playing with you! I'm so excited to see you again around town, and in big-kid school. It's time for me to go back to preschool myself, as a teacher now!

I'm excited to pass the torch to Heather LaRocca who will be our interim coordinator. You may well already know her. Since 2018, she's been frequenting "the room" weekly whenever possible, often for Music & Movement. And since 2019 she's been one of the co-chairs of our board. She's also a teacher, naturalist, and athletic coach. And she's been leading our Nature Explorations Series, (a walking playgroup program) during the pandemic. So we are very lucky to have her!

We look forward to connecting with you all next month when our fall programming is set to begin. We're hoping to have our annual Barn Dance (outside) at the Beard's barn in Waterbury Center again (Sept 18th?). I'll be there with my family if we do.

Please follow us on Facebook to learn about what's happening with us. Finally, please consider joining our board! The Children's Room is always welcoming new board members to help make new, free opportunities for families with young children to meet and socialize. For more information, or to learn more about our programs, please contact Heather at childrensroom@huusd.org.
