To Fayston residents and the HUUSD school district:

I am seeking to represent Fayston on the HUUSD School Board for the next year as a write-in candidate in the election this coming Tuesday. My interest in joining the board stems from three places:

  • I have two children currently attending Fayston Elementary school in Kindergarten and third grade who will be in school in this region for some time to come.

  • I believe that strong schools are crucial to keeping the Mad River Valley vibrant and attractive for families.

  • I think I can bring strategic thinking that goes beyond single budget cycles to the education challenges that we face as a town, district, and state.

I am most interested in medium- to long-term planning for education in the Mad River Valley and HUUSD as a whole. I think that those of us in the HUUSD need to come together to build consensus around a positive and realistic vision for our schools. Only then can we advocate for and work towards that vision, regardless of what comes out of the state-level Act 73 discussions around new, larger school districts and updated funding formulas

As a part of joining the board, I hope to get plugged into existing discussions around the future of our schools and be a part of moving them forward.

Fayston voters can write-in my name for the one-year seat (replacing former board member Mike Bishop) when voting on the HUUSD budget, and may reach me with any questions at karl.naden@gmail.com.

Thank you for your consideration.
