LETTER: EFUD commissioner candidate Valerie Rogers
May 12, 2026To the Community:
I'm Valerie Rogers, and I'm running for a one-year seat on the Edward Farrar Utility District (EFUD) Commission on May 13. EFUD is not always the easiest public body to understand, but its work matters. It oversees essential water and wastewater services, and the decisions made by the commission affect residents, ratepayers, infrastructure, land use, and long-term planning in Waterbury.I've lived in Waterbury for more than 30 years as both a resident and property owner. My professional background is in operations, quality improvement, and compliance — work that requires careful listening, clear documentation, asking practical questions, and making sure decisions are understandable and durable. That is the perspective I would bring to EFUD.
If elected, I will focus on:
Clear communication — so people can understand what is being discussed and decided.
Transparency — so information is easier to find and decisions are easier to follow.
Practical oversight — asking how decisions are made, what they cost, and how they affect residents and ratepayers.
Respectful engagement — listening carefully, asking questions early, and working constructively toward long-term solutions.
I know many people are trying to better understand EFUD right now — what it does, who it serves, how decisions are made, and who is eligible to vote. I believe public bodies work best when people feel informed, welcomed, and encouraged to participate.
A quick note on voting: this is an EFUD district election, not a town-wide election. To vote, you must be a registered voter living within the Edward Farrar Utility District, basically, the downtown district. If you are unsure whether you are eligible, please contact the Waterbury Town Clerk's Office and they can help you confirm.
Voting for EFUD Commissioner will take place on Wednesday, May 13, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Waterbury Municipal Office.
The EFUD Annual Meeting will be held that evening, May 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the Steele Community Room. Annual Reports are available now online here and paper copies are at the municipal office, Kinney Drugs, Billings Mobil and both post offices. I encourage residents and ratepayers to review one before the meeting. Most of all, I hope more people will participate, ask questions, and use their voice.I would appreciate your vote on May 13.I welcome questions and conversation — feel free to reach out at vsjorja061@gmail.com.
Thank you,
Valerie Rogers
