LETTER: Gratitude for Mad River Valley Arts’ outgoing leader

October 28, 2026

To the Community:

Sam Talbot-Kelly is moving on as Artistic & Executive Director of Mad River Valley Arts after four and a half years presenting innovative and thought-provoking exhibits.

She successfully created a platform for artists to present works about relevant global topics from an imaginative perspective and grew MRVA into a leading rural hub for contemporary art and interdisciplinary design.

Since 2023, she has curated over 30 exhibits exploring the links between environment, technology, and imagination, also hosting workshops, speakers, and summer camps for kids in addition to mounting exhibitions at the Red Barn at Lareau Farm & Forest.

She worked to create partnerships with the Mad River Path, Friends of the Mad River and the Valley Chamber of Commerce, engaging with artists and designers to create public art for all to enjoy. She will continue to work with us on these projects.

With each gallery exhibit, she completely reimagined the space, using her amazing talent for redesign to create a new visual experience for artists and visitors.

The Board of Directors is grateful to Sam for her execution of her unique artistic perspective and is excited to continue the mission and vision of the organization building on the foundation and partnerships Sam has nurtured throughout her years here. Her integrity and high standards are evident in everything she has touched.

The community and we heartily thank her for sharing her talent and for her dedication and hard work during the time she has been with us.

With gratitude,

Jean Sharry, Dana Donaldson, John Donaldson, Jane Macan, Bonnie Barnes, Katherine Quinlan, Marion Usher, Maura Connolly
