LETTER: Gratitude to The Tiny Acorn and its legacy

July 2, 2025

To the Community:

The Tiny Acorn, along with owners Sally and Bob Dain, has been such a lovely resource in our community for many years. The shop will be missed. I just stopped in this week, and they still have a large inventory.

Many people may not realize what a gift Sally provided to many infants, toddlers, children and families in her role as one of the children's librarians, along with Sue Sarah, at Waterbury Public Library before Tiny Acorn. Her story hours were the best, and all were always welcome. She helped to cultivate a love of books and reading in so many children in our community. She provided wonderful art and craft projects for every child who attended and introduced many of us to Dinoman. I still have ornaments that are hung on our Christmas tree every year (almost 30 years later) that were a result of Sally’s and Sue’s story hours. Sally involved many parents and daycare providers with the Mother Goose programs through a wonderful organization that no longer exists: Vermont Center for the Book. She helped to get books into the hands of hundreds of children in our greater community.

Thanks so much to Sally for everything she has done for our community.

Happy retirement to Sally and Bob – so well deserved!
