LETTER: LIFT fundraiser will support future student travel-study

September 1, 2025

To the Community:

On Aug. 23 at Camp Meade in Middlesex, LIFT (the Cyrus Zschau Memorial Fund) celebrated our second annual fundraising event.

The day was filled with bright sunshine, live music, delicious food, tasty beverages and amazing community and it raised almost $6,000 for us to put towards scholarships for Harwood Union High School students to travel on school-sponsored trips.

All of us at LIFT would like to thank the following people for their generosity:

  • Mother Nature for the bright sunshine and comfortable temps!

  • Russ Bennett and everyone at Camp Meade for donating the use of their wonderful grounds.

  • Emily Von Trapp for donating flowers to make the event POP!

  • Lawson's Finest Liquids for sponsoring the sound tech (James Cross) for the musicians.

  • Fun Dip for kicking off the music, and especially Bob Brookens for playing all day long.

  • Ragged Company and special guest Tim Holter for rocking us into the early evening.

  • Michael Flanagan and Wilson Pierce at Michael's Good 2 Go for cooking up your delicious food.

  • Emily Hill and Jonah Ibson, a Harwood student and a Harwood educator, who shared their heartfelt words on their perspectives as a traveler and a trip leader for what LIFT meant for them.

  • Zschau family members, Tracy, Tommy and Ben, for working the entrances

  • And most of all to our generous donors, those who attended in person and those who donated online.

Thank you from the entire LIFT board,

Sarah, Chris and Charlie Zschau

LIFT (Launch Into Foreign Travel) is a nonprofit scholarship program created in 2017 to support Harwood Union High School students in pursuit of educational travel. LIFT honors the memory of Cyrus Zschau, a Harwood junior who lost his life along with four friends in 2016 in a car crash. Cyrus had a love for travel and adventure and aspired to travel the world after high school. More information is online at czlift.org.
