LETTER: Molly Gray is a progressive leader
June 2, 2026To the Community:
Molly Gray’s recent endorsement of universal primary care (“Vermonters Deserve universal primary care,” May 15) mirrors Vermont’s investment in other progressive policies that support Vermonters’ health and well-being while saving money.
The list of similar progressive, cost-effective Vermont investments is long: universal childcare, the Dr. Dynasaur program, universal free school breakfast, renewable energy and so many others. All have allowed Vermont to lead the nation and have meant a better quality of life and lower taxes and other costs for all Vermonters.
With healthcare as a primary driver of the cost of living, of our schools and municipal services, the time is now for this kind of visionary investment in cost-saving initiatives that move Vermont forward.
The universal primary care proposal supported by Molly Gray, former Vermont Gov. and Dr. Howard Dean, and many Vermont lawmakers, is simple: make strategic, targeted public investments in preventative care – for everyone. Molly isn’t afraid to talk about how to pay for this proposal: a tax on second homes, and by recouping the Trump tax cuts that benefitted Vermont’s highest income earners.
Molly Gray was the fourth woman elected lieutenant governor of Vermont. She’s tested. She stood up to Trump’s hurtful policies as the executive director of an organization supporting Afghan political refugees’ resettlement in Vermont. She has the kind of experience Vermonters need right now.
Molly Gray’s support of innovative, progressive ideas that save money and support working Vermonters is one of the many reasons I look forward to voting for her.
