LETTER: ‘We can be the Democratic response’
September 11, 2025
To the Community:
I salute the work of Indivisible, Third Way, Move On, and the countless number of organizations agitating for change. Our current government is actively harming the vast majority of people in the name of profit and greed. These organizations are raising the alarm by protest and by speaking truth to power.
Many people believe the Democratic Party's response has been lukewarm at best and ineffective at worst. They are not speaking for the needs of people nor proposing alternatives. We need to imagine what the future should be to make it happen.
Protest is great, but it is not enough. Political organizing is how we gather together to elect people to represent us. Protesting is a great way to have your voice heard. Politics is how we turn our voices into action.
If there was ever a time to gather together to stand up for sanity, to work for a brighter future, it is upon us.
This is our government. We elect our leaders. When we stand together we can have a government that serves our needs. We can influence the Democratic Party locally, statewide, and even nationally by working together within the party for the change we need.
We can be the Democratic response. We can imagine the future we want. We can be a part of building a new America.
The Waterbury Town Democratic Committee primarily works to educate and to elect our two state representatives and three state senators. It is a tangible way to be a positive force in a negative world. We are represented in the county committee and may hold positions in the state party and nationally.
I know this because I've done it.
All political parties reorganize every two years in the non-election year. This year we will meet at the town library on Sept. 17 at 7:15 p.m. Note: This is a change of date. Please reach out if you have questions. Let's work together to shape the Democratic Party.
