Martha Staskus: Stability, experience, and a tenure of local service

February 6, 2026

To my fellow Waterbury voters:

I am Martha Staskus and I am running for a one-year Waterbury Select Board seat.

While it’s my first time on the ballot, it’s not my first time serving Waterbury! For the past eight years, I’ve served on the Planning Commission -- as chair for these last two -- and before that 10+ years on the Development Review Board/town Zoning Board.

Waterbury has been home for my family since 1999.  My kids attended our local schools and played in our local youth sports programs. Professionally, my career has been in renewable energy development, leading our local firm in project management, budget oversight and local and regional land use regulations.

I will bring stability, experience, and a long tenure in service to our local government. While the Planning Commission is preparing the new Town Plan, I have been listening closely to what community members have on their mind, their aspirations and goals for our future, and strategizing how best we can all work together to achieve them.

Now with several municipal staff and select board openings, I feel fortunate to participate in Waterbury’s transition and bring together your priorities and my business acumen for stability and solutions. My decades of work with regional municipalities and Waterbury’s committees inform me on shared challenges and opportunities from housing and infrastructure to recreation and economic growth.

An immediate priority to build on Waterbury’s successes will be to ensure we secure highly qualified staff, including our new Town Manager. This role is vital to maintaining momentum regarding:

  • Administrative stability: Ensuring the municipal services we all rely on remain consistent and reliable.

  • Flood resilience: Protecting our homes and businesses from future climate impacts.

  • Housing: Addressing our community's housing needs.

I care about our local economy, our community members who call Waterbury home, and our environment and outdoor opportunities. I ask for your March 3 Town Meeting Day vote (on or before) so I can continue to serve our town and hit the ground running on day one. Feel free to email me at wbypc.staskus@gmail.com if you have questions, comments or suggestions.

Thank you!

Martha Staskus
