HU Boys Hockey adds wins over break; Girls Hockey, Hoops log losses
January 5, 2026 | By Lauren Read | Correspondent Harwood Union High School teams were busy over the holiday break. Here’s a recap of recent game results as Boys Hockey logged two wins and Girls Hockey and Girls Basketball teams took losses.

BOYS HOCKEY
Harwood 7, Burr and Burton 2
Harwood boys hockey stayed unbeaten with wins over Burr and Burton on Saturday and Spaulding on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
In the Saturday match, senior Milo Lavit tallied four times to lead the Highlanders in the 7-2 win, earning himself his first career hat trick. Senior Eli Herrington added a goal and three assists, while sophomore Cooper Browe chipped in with two goals. Junior Griffin Nelson had four helpers for Harwood.
Goalie Andrew Achilles stopped 25 shots to get the win in net for Harwood, who moved to 5-0 with the win.
Harwood 4, Spaulding 0
In Tuesday’s match against the Crimson Tide, Highlander Milo Lavit landed two goals and had an assist. Eli Herrington scored one and logged two assists, moving him into third place in Harwood’s all-time scoring records, according to the Times Argus. Griffin Nelson notched one assist as well. Junior goalie Alex McCabe had 17 saves for his first varsity shutout as well.
Across the ice, Spaulding goalie Ethan Fortin was nonstop, making 64 saves for his team.
The Highlanders will take on Stowe at home in a rescheduled game on Monday, Jan. 5, at 6:30 p.m. They play again this week on Wednesday, Dec. 7, hosting Mt. Mansfield Union at 7:30 p.m. at the Waterbury Ice Center.
GIRLS ICE HOCKEY
Rice 10, Harwood 1
Harwood Girls Hockey lost their fifth game in a row on Saturday, losing to Rice at home, 10-1.
Junior Paige Pratt scored the lone goal for the Highlanders. Goalie Camille Edgecomb stopped 26 shots on goal in the loss.
Harwood will travel this week for two games: Wednesday to Rutland for a 4 p.m. game at Spartan Arena and to Woodstock on Saturday, Jan. 10, for a 5:15 p.m. game.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
North Country 56, Harwood 25
Harwood Girls Basketball fell on Friday, losing on the road to North Country 56-25. Senior Maddie Grace Ryley and sophomore Adelaide Chalmers each had eight points for the Highlanders.
With the loss, Harwood moves to 3-2.
The team next travels to Middlebury on Monday, Jan. 5, to play at 7 p.m. On Friday, Jan. 9, they host U-32 at home at 7 p.m.

Tuesday: Boys Basketball travels to Lamoille for games at 5:30 p.m. (JV) and 7 p.m. (varsity). Harwood Wrestling has a match at South Burlington High School at 6 p.m.
Wednesday: Harwood Gymnastics hosts Essex for a 7:30 p.m. meet at their home gym at Central Vermont Gymnastics Academy in Waterbury.
Thursday: Harwood Nordic skiers race at 3 p.m. at Ole’s Cross Country Ski Center in Warren. Boys Basketball hosts North Country for home games at 5:30 and 7 p.m. (JV first, then varsity).
Friday: Harwood Alpine skiers race at Smuggler’s Notch at 9:45 a.m.
Saturday: Harwood Wrestling travels to Mill River for a match at 10 a.m.
