Kids skip the kids race at HU XC’s fun run

Harwood Union High School’s Cross Country team’s second Summer Fun Run held on Monday, July 7 attracted 18 runners and even the youngest runners were eager to run the 3K, according to Assistant Coach Tom Cahalan. 

“There was not a kids race since the kids wanted to run the 3K!” he said. 

The winner of the 3K race was Jackson Migonis of Waterbury with a time of 21.46 followed by Elle Migonis of Massachusetts at 21.47 and Mateo Metcalf of Duxbury at 21.52.

In the 5K, Vince Wing of Waterbury Center finished first with a time of 18.22, followed by Jon Floyd of Waterbury Center at 21.30, Drew Migonis of Massachusetts at 25.18, Patrick Migonis of Waterbury at 25.19, Alison Migonis of Waterbury at 25.19, Serena Wilcox and Jake Pitman of Duxbury at 26.08, Harmony Devoe of Warren at 27.14, Pippa Diller of Waterbury and Julia Cisz of Duxbury at 27.19, Kevin McElroy of Duxbury at 28.12, Andy Metcalf of Duxbury at 28.21, Beckett McElroy of Duxbury at 30.06, Emilie Diller of Waterbury at 31.06, and Rich Reed of Waterbury at 42.02.

Summer Fun Runs will be held every Monday through Aug. 18 on the trails at Harwood Union High School in Duxbury. The next will be Monday, July 21. 

Registration starts at 6 p.m. The Kids Race start is 6:15  p.m., followed by the 3K/5K race at 6:30 p.m. The cost to participate is $5 per runner; there’s no charge for kids age 6 and under. Proceeds support the Harwood Union Cross Country team’s fall trip to Belfast, Maine, for the Maine Festival of Champions competition.
