The 14th annual World Soccer Festival is set for Saturday, Aug. 22, and team registration is open through Aug. 4.
For the third year, the event takes place at Montpelier High School from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Organizers say the festival will continue its tradition of community-building, celebrating “the beautiful game” and its growing diversity in Vermont along with festive music and food. They hope this year’s World Cup, taking place in the United States, will also help drive interest and participation.
Soccer play is geared to kids entering second through eighth grades for 3v3 friendly games. Each year, teams get to represent a nation of their choice. All players on a team receive their country’s flag, and a vibrant parade of players kicks off the festival.
Also part of the event is an adult international exhibition game that will pit the Capital Soccer Men’s team against the Central America Stars.
The day includes a variety of local and international food vendors and art activities for children of all ages. Music by Central Vermont’s Shidaa Project and Burlington’s Afro-Brazilian percussion band Sambatucada will add to the atmosphere.
Team registration is now open through Aug. 4. Find more information and register online at worldsoccerfestival.org.
