Harwood senior Ava Thurston of Waterbury placed first out of 136 racers Monday during the 5-kilometer freestyle competition at the 2022 U.S. Ski & Snowboard Junior National Cross-Country Ski Championships taking place this week in Minneapolis. Thurston outpaced the second-place finisher by more than a minute.

It’s that time of year again and this year, the Leaf Peepers Half Marathon & 5K is back on and scheduled for this Sunday, Oct. 3. The popular foot race started in 1984 with the 5K added in 1990. This is the 37th running after it skipped 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Zenbarn soccer team tops Reeves Tournament
For the second year in a row, Zenbarn's soccer team in the Central Vermont Soccer League took top honors in the annual Matt Reeves memorial soccer tournament held last weekend in Bethel. The event raised over $800 for its student-athlete college scholarship fund.
