Calling all lovers of watercolors, whether they be avid painters, hobbyists or just art enthusiasts: The Vermont Watercolor Society’s Central and Northeast Kingdom HUB brings its magic to Axel’s Gallery with a show running from Sept. 10 through Oct. 18.

The exhibition will highlight a range of styles — from delicate, transparent washes to bold, expressive layers. Together, the works in the collection celebrate the many ways Vermont artists interpret the world through watercolor.

Founded in 1995 by a small group of passionate painters, the Vermont Watercolor Society has grown to more than 240 members statewide. The organization is dedicated to promoting the awareness and appreciation of watercolor, supporting artists of all skill levels through exhibitions, educational programs, and an active network of fellowship.

To strengthen connections across the state, the society organizes its membership into regional “hubs.” These local groups foster community, share resources, and provide opportunities for artists to engage more closely with their neighbors. The Central and Northeast Kingdom Hubs — whose members are featured in this show at Axel’s — represent a diverse range of artistic voices united by a love for the watercolor medium.

“This exhibition not only reflects the incredible talent in these regions, but also the camaraderie and mutual support that make VWS such a dynamic organization,” says Ruth Kaldor, Director of Exhibitions for the Vermont Watercolor Society.

As part of the show, Axel’s will host a casual community reception on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. Visitors can meet the artists, swap ideas, and learn more about the Vermont Watercolor Society. The free reception is open to everyone — painters, art enthusiasts, and the watercolor-curious alike. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.

With the exception of special events, Axel’s Gallery and Frame Shop is open Wednesday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
