Obituary: Annie H. Coffey
March 17, 1940 – April 11, 2026
April 15, 2026Annie H. Coffey, 86 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully with family holding her hands, on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Woodridge Rehabilitation and Nursing in Berlin, after a 10+ year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born in St. Malachie, Quebec, on March 17, 1940, she was the oldest child of the late Germaine and Edward Healy.
The Healy family moved to Stanstead, Quebec, for a short time, and then to Barton, Vermont, in 1950, where Annie helped with the family farm for several years.
On August 6, 1960, she married the late Everett W. Coffey. Annie and Everett started their life together in Rutland, Vermont, and just a few years later moved to Waterbury, Vermont, to raise their family and start a business. Once having children, Annie stayed home to raise their family.
Annie was active in the community in many ways. She was a member of the Waterbury Ambulance Service for more than 35 years. She was an active member of the Waterbury Congregational Church, including leading their Circle 2 group, sewing and cooking for their annual bazaar, strawberry festival, and any other event that went on in the church. She was also a member of the Waterbury Women’s Club, Home Dem, Jaycee-Anns, a Girl Scout leader, Blush Hill Country Club, and the Waterbury Fire Department Auxiliary.
Annie loved to cook – she catered weddings and made the most amazing cakes for any event. She loved to sew – whether it was items for the church bazaar or making quilts for family and then teaching quilting classes to others. She was in her glory either in the kitchen or sitting at her sewing machine. She was an avid, competitive bridge player as well, and could be seen daily sitting in her chair with four bridge hands laid out in her lap, playing the game she loved.
Annie’s most treasured memories come from the time at their family camp in Island Pond, where the kids and grandkids played on the beach and in the water, and later, when she would sit in camp overlooking the lake, with her sewing machine actively buzzing away.
Annie leaves behind her children: Donald (Janet) Coffey of West Danville, David (Lynne) Coffey of Barre, Sally-Ann (Gary) Dillon of Waterbury, Mary-Ellen “Em” (Scott) Lamson of Waterbury Center; her sisters Nancy (Jim) Rodgers of Glover, and Margaret Melson, of San Jose, California; her grandchildren, Ethan (Alisha) Coffey, Carley (Justin) Sayers, Katrina (Jeremy Sneed) Coffey, David Coffey Jr., Kayla (Jacob) Grout, Amanda (Kyle) Guyette, Morgan (Stephen DiGregorio) Lamson, Adam (Taylor Clark) Lamson, Diane Supernault, Nicole Supernault; great-grandchildren Kara, Maddux, Adeline, Emmett, Oliver, Jack, Leighton, and a new baby arriving in July.
Besides her husband and parents, Annie was predeceased by her brother Edward and many of her in-laws.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to her caregiver, Linda Robert, who took Annie into her own home and loved and cared for her for two years, and the staff at Woodridge, who cared for her in her final two years.
There will be visiting hours on Friday, May 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Perkins Parker Funeral Home, 48 South Main St., Waterbury, and a service of celebration will be at the Waterbury Congregational Church on Saturday, May 2, at 1 p.m. with burial and reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Waterbury Ambulance Service, 49 DeMeritt Place, Waterbury, VT 05676, or Waterbury Congregational Church, 8 North Main Street, Waterbury, VT 05676.
