Arthur ‘Scott’ Hunter, 1966-2026
Arthur “Scott” Hunter, 60, of Waterbury Center, Vermont, left his earthly bounds to play his next round in the heavens on July 25, 2026. He was surrounded by love at the McClure Miller Respite House. Scott was the son of Carole (Nelson) LaCascio and the late Arthur W. Hunter, Jr., both of Warwick, Rhode Island.
Born on May 10, 1966, in Providence, Rhode Island, Scott spent his younger years in Warwick until traveling to New Orleans in his mid-teens, graduating from Warren Easton High School in 1984. He enjoyed being a member of Boy Scouts and Little League in and later truly grew as a photographer in New Orleans.
Scott moved back to Rhode Island and became a member of Bristol FD#86 Dreadnaughts, before finding his niche with Bristol Rescue in 1988. He achieved cardiac certification and the rank of lieutenant, both with pride.
In 1995 Scott moved to Waterbury, Vermont, to join his to-be partner in life, Jodi LaVanway, and he quickly became a valued community member.
Scott joined Waterbury Ambulance Service in 1996, and was a volunteer member for nearly 20 years. He gained quick knowledge of the area and established many friendships that he treasured dearly.
By far, the world of sports is where Scott excelled. As a coach, referee, umpire, player or fan, sports captured his heart. Scott became a coach with Harwood Youth Hockey Association in 1996, where he proceeded to lead teams from Mite level to Bantams, and back again. Scott worked with Harwood Boys Varsity Ice Hockey goaltenders before landing in his favorite coaching position with Harwood Girls Varsity Hockey. Through his many years of coaching, having been the proud coach of the several championship youth teams, one of his most treasured moments was the 2013 Girls Varsity State Championship.
Scott believed that his greatest accomplishment happened in October 2005, when he became the proud father of his daughter Jordan. His love for sports became a shared activity with her, as he coached her on local youth softball teams, taught her to ice skate, goaltend, and referee for hockey, and guided her when golf came into her schedule. Together they enjoyed Chinese food, Disney and Pixar movies, roller coasters, video games and sports, sports, sports!
Scott was a leader in bringing Middle School Softball to Harwood. He absolutely beamed when his middle school team went undefeated in 2022.
Completing his hat trick of coaching, Scott also assisted with the Harwood Varsity Golf team. He enjoyed sharing a game while offering tips and tricks for better play.
Along with coaching, Scott was an accomplished USA Hockey referee, Level 3, for youth hockey, for more than 20 years. He was well known for putting favorite players in the box with a quick shake of his head and a “you can’t do that.” He shared his experience with many youth officials by mentoring them as they learned, and always at home when watching a game!
Scott is survived by his partner Jodi and daughter Jordan of Waterbury Center; his mother Carole of Warwick; in-laws Mo and Barb LaVanway of Duxbury; sisters Cheryl (Bart) Garrett of Warwick, Johnni (Trevor) Damon of West Topsham; brothers Kevin (Judy) LaCascio of Warwick, Robert (Naomi) LaCascio of Sabattus, Maine; and several special nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by his father Arthur, stepfather Louis LaCascio, and brother Mark LaCascio.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Blush Hill Country Club on Sunday, Aug. 30 at 2 p.m. Fellowship and refreshments to follow.
In place of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Scott’s memory to McClure Miller Respite Home or Waterbury Ambulance Service. We are so very thankful for the wonderful care received from both organizations.
