Obituary: Carol A. Plunkett
September 10, 1943 – October 14, 2026
Carol A. Plunkett, 1943-2026
A longtime resident of Waterbury, Vermont, Carol (Dibbell) Plunkett passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin, Vermont, while she was under the loving care of Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice.
Born on September 10, 1943, in Burlington, Vermont, she was the daughter of Marion (Churchill) Dibbell and John Allen Dibbell.
In her youth, Carol attended Waterbury High School. It was in Waterbury where she met her spouse of 62 years, Oliver Plunkett, when his family relocated from Tennessee to Waterbury to work on the interstate project. Together they raised two children, Ray Plunkett of Waterbury Center and Stacy (Plunkett) Lang of Dandridge, Tennessee.
Carol started her career as a bank teller for The Bank of Waterbury, which later became First Vermont Bank. Additionally, she worked in accounting for various local businesses over the years, including Green Mountain Coffee Roasters and the Waterbury Town Clerk’s office.
Carol was a wonderful lady known best for her witty, dry sense of humor. During her vibrant years, she was very active. She loved traveling to visit friends and relatives, and playing cards with her close-knit friends and neighbors. Earlier in life, she was on several local bowling leagues with her lifelong friends. After retirement, she thoroughly enjoyed her membership at the Blush Hill Country Club, where she was known to be whenever she possibly could.
Later in life, she was forced to slow down due to an autoimmune disease. During this time, she enjoyed visiting with neighbors and close friends (while they drank coffee and smoked cigarettes!).
She is survived by her two children, Ray and Stacy. She is also survived by her brother David Dibbell of Avon Lake, Ohio.
In addition to her parents, Carol was predeceased by her husband, Oliver, and her brother, Kenneth Dibbell.
The Plunkett family is extremely grateful for the dedicated and caring staff of The Gary Residence in Montpelier, Vermont, where Carol resided, as well as the compassionate staff at Woodridge Rehab and Nursing during her most recent stay. Lastly, they would like to give thanks to her special friend Lori Ashley, of whom she was very fond and looked forward to spending time with.
The family would welcome you to join them on Friday, Oct. 23, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Perkins-Parker Funeral Home, 48 South Main Street, Waterbury, for a gathering of friends. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Central Vermont Home Health & Hospice.
