Burton L. Green Sr., 1938-2025

DUXBURY – Burton L Green Sr, 87, passed away in the comfort of his home with family on December 7, 2025.

Born in Burlington, Vermont, on September 25, 1938, he was the oldest son of Roscoe and Helen (Vaughn) Green. On May 16, 1959, he married Rebecca (Sherman) Green.

Burt graduated from St. Johnsbury Trade School in 1958. He joined the Vermont National Guard at the age of 17, transferring to the U.S. Army in Virginia in the fall of 1958, where he served at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. He then served in Camp Eiler in Seoul, Korea, in the 40th Engineer Company (Topographic) for 14 months, where he did map compiling. He later was stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.

Burt is loved and mourned by his wife of 66 years, Rebecca A. Green of Duxbury. He is also survived by his brother Carroll Green and his wife Donna; Mrs. (Ronald) Julie Green; his sister Cynthia Green and her husband Paul Grenier, their daughter Linda (Green) Joyal and her husband Chris of Byron, Maine, their son Burton L. Green Jr. and his wife Kelly of Moretown, their daughter Helessa Green and her longtime partner Robert Boucher of Auburn, Maine; his six grandchildren: Brian L. Woodard and his wife Rosanna, Bryce Woodard, Brittani Trombley and her husband Scott, Cheyanne Bent and her husband Seth, Kay Green and her husband Kurt, Stephen Anderson; eight great-grandchildren: Elsie and Aliza Woodard, Makena and Brodie Woodard, Winthrop and Orrin Green, Alexis and Hailey Anderson; as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family. 

He was predeceased by his parents, Roscoe and Helen Green, his brother Ronald Green, his sister Linda Anne Green, and his great-grandson Liam Green.

Burt had many memberships, including being a life member of the American Legion (serving as commander, starting the color guard, etc.) and a life member of the Waterbury/Stowe Fish and Game Club. He and Bill Johnson were instrumental in organizing the first snowmobile club in the area, the Green Mountain Roamers, and VAST. Burt was an avid hunter. He also enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, skiing, maple sugaring, races, and spending time with his family.

A graveside service will be held at the South Duxbury Cemetery on May 16, 2026, at 11 a.m.
