Robert Lee Catchapaw, 65, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.
Born in Big Springs, Texas, on February 19, 1961, he was the son of the late Richard L. Catchapaw Sr. and Catherine (Swan Warren) Catchapaw.
Robert graduated from Harwood Union High School in 1980. As a young man, he worked at the State Farm in Duxbury, where he developed a lifelong love of farming. He later worked for Mad River Canoe Company and served as a bus driver for the Harwood Union School District. The majority of his working career was spent with Huntington Homes as a truck driver, retiring in November 2024.
Dedicated to public service, Robert first joined the Waterbury Fire Department before becoming a member of the Middlesex Fire Department, where he faithfully served for many years, attaining the rank of captain. He was a proud lifetime member of the department and was deeply respected by his fellow firefighters and the community.
Robert enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life. He loved riding motorcycles, especially his trike, following NASCAR racing and Thunder Road racing, maple sugaring, and camping. Family camping trips to Maine created many cherished memories over the years. He was proud of his American Indian heritage and took great pride in sharing that connection with his family. He was known for his sense of humor and great laugh. Robert's greatest joy was spending time with those he loved.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Catchapaw; his children, Ashley Catchapaw and her partner Nick Baker, Jessica Catchapaw, Jamie Catchapaw and Steven Peck, Robert Catchapaw and his partner Reaunna, and Thomas Peck and his wife Genevieve. He is also survived by his sister Sarah L. Touchette and her husband, Jim; his brother Richard L. Catchapaw Jr. and his wife Kim; his granddaughter, Alicia Baker; and grandson Anthony Robert, who is expected soon. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
A graveside service to celebrate Robert's life will be held at Maple Street Cemetery in Waterbury Center on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 1 p.m. A reception will follow at the Waterbury- Stowe Fish & Game Club, 5365 Waterbury Stowe Road, Waterbury Center.

Robert will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his years of service to his community, his strong work ethic, and the kindness and friendship he extended to all who knew him. His memory will live in the hearts of those who loved him.
