Exhibit poster art features Ben Finer's oil painting, 'Celestial Event.'

An evening reception on April 2 kicks off a new three-artist exhibition titled ‘Non Sequitur’ that runs through June 26 at The Phoenix Gallery and Music Hall.

The show will feature art by guest curator Ben Finer, co-director of Kishka Gallery & Library in White River Junction, along with works by Tara Wray and Lucy Mink, who have exhibited at Kishka as well.

“We are truly honored to welcome all three artists to this special exhibit at The Phoenix,” gallery owner Joseph Pensak said.

Finer lives and works in Hartford, Vermont. He studied painting at the Rhode Island School of Design and received an MFA from Parsons School of Design in 2009. His work has been shown around the U.S. and internationally, including group and solo exhibitions in New York City.

He’s also worked in a variety of media, including as a puppet technician, where his creations appeared in productions on and off Broadway, including “The Addams Family” and at the Centennial Celebration of the San Diego Zoo.

His explorations as a miniaturist led him to roles including head fabricator of custom terrariums for boutique terrarium company Twig in Brooklyn. He built miniatures for Gulliver’s Gate, a miniature museum in Times Square. His current gig is co-director at the nonprofit art gallery Kishka in White River Junction.

His “Celestial Event” oil painting is the poster art for Non Squitur.

Having spent more than 25 years working in photography, writing, and documentary film, Tara Wray began painting in 2022. Her work has been shown at venues such as Lincoln Center, SXSW, and KunstHausWien Museum Hundertwasser in Vienna.

A graduate of NYU, she’s authored numerous photobooks, including “Too Tired for Sunshine” and “Year of the Beast,” which blend humor, melancholy, and the absurdities of everyday life. Her recent paintings on exhibit in this show offer simplified forms and powerful color.

She lives off-grid in rural Vermont with her filmmaker husband, their identical twin sons, and a blue-eyed rescue dog named Hula. When she is not making art, she works as a librarian.

Lucy Mink lives and works in Contoocook, New Hampshire, and her art has been featured in numerous group and solo exhibitions, including Big Town Gallery, Rochester, Vermont, McGowan Fine Art in Concord, New Hampshire, Jaffe-Freide Gallery at Dartmouth College, and other venues from St. Louis to Brooklyn to Great Barrington, Massachusetts.

A recipient of a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, she has been an artist in residence at Dartmouth. Mink received her MFA from Minneapolis College of Art and Design and her BFA from Savannah College of Art and Design.

Paintings by all three artists will be up at The Phoenix through June 26.

The public is invited to the April 2 opening reception, 6-8 p.m., which will include drinks and music. Admission is free.
